Right-wing X account Libs of TikTok has been called out by Grok for spreading misinformation.
Elon Musk’s AI chatbot, which is in hot water amid generating “images depicting minors in minimal clothing”, raising concerns about the safety of the model, has called out Libs of TikTok over spreading misinformation in “several cases”.
The notoriously anti-LGBTQ+ social media account, operated by right-wing pundit Chaya Raichik, has a history of targeting educators, influencers and academics who have voiced pro-LGBTQ+ views.
In response to the X account posting on Monday (5 January) an image of Tim Walz looking shocked, with the caption, “Lol we bullied Walz into dropping out of his campaign. X did this,” a user asked Grok: “How often does this account spread misinformation?”
Walz was Kamala Harris running mate in the US presidential election, and the Democrat holds pro-LGBTQ+ views that have seen him consistently work to ensure Minnesota is a safe place for the community.
Libs of TikTok’s post was in relation to Walz being expected to drop out of his election bid for Minnesota Governor amid backlash over a fraud scandal, after a federal investigation found that dozens of Minnesota residents – predominantly Somali refugees – had defrauded the federal government of potentially billions of dollars.
In response to the question, Grok responded: “Based on various reports, libsoftiktok has faced accusations of misinformation in several cases, especially regarding LGBTQ+ issues and children’s hospitals (e.g., claims about surgeries on minors that hospitals denied). Supporters argue it’s just sharing public content accurately. Frequency isn’t precisely quantified, but critics cite multiple examples since 2022.”
It isn’t the first time that Libs of TikTok has been called out. In 2024, Oklahoma organisations and activists urged the account’s creator, Raichik, to “stay out” of the state in an open letter ahead her anticipated visit.
Even Republican governor Ron DeSantis has accused the account of “lying” about state laws in Florida in a social media post.
A previous investigation also revealed links between schools across the US facing bomb threats just days after being targeted by Libs of TikTok.
At one point, Raichik’s anti-LGBTQ+ campaign even landed her on a list of homophobic “extremists“.
