The world’s largest lesbian dating app is going viral over its hilarious bowling ball advert.
HER, a sapphic dating app for queer women and non-binary people, boasts more than 15 million users globally, so it’s no surprise that its latest campaign is going viral online.
As part of its “The Sapphic Restart” campaign, launched to reshape the narrative around dating in the New Year, HER rolled out billboards across New York and Los Angeles titled “Everything Reminds Me of HER”.
The posters feature fingers slipping into a bowling ball and champagne cascading over skin – sensual imagery full of innuendo that has not gone unnoticed by viewers.
A TikTok posted by one user has been viewed more than 550,000 times, and has accrued almost 89,000 likes.
In the clip, the comedic TikToker shows the bowling ball advert before turning the camera to themselves and exclaiming: “Is that f****** legal in broad daylight. Think of the children! Gay?!”
Comments under the clip share widespread praise for the marketing team, while many shared that they found their current partners on HER.
“Get that marketing team a raise,” one comment with hundreds of likes read.
“No, that’s great marketing,” another person added.
In 2023, HER told all transphobic users to delete its app from their phones, after a pile-on resulted in the app’s X account being temporarily suspended.
The pile-on came after the app released a blog post in celebration of Lesbian Visibility Day, describing how it is “reclaiming ‘lesbian’” from “the clutches of TERFs and bigots who’ve tried to hijack it to fuel their transphobia and hatred”.
Speaking with PinkNews, HER CEO Robyn Exton explained the app being an inclusive space is “nothing new”.
“HER has always been a platform that is for trans women, for non-binary people and anyone who identifies as a woman,” she said.
