Jack Schlossberg, nephew of the late John F. Kennedy Jr., has slammed the portrayal of his family in Ryan Murphy’s FX TV show Love Story.
In a new interview, the 33-year-old Kennedy scion called on Murphy to “do something about getting Trump out of power”.
Love Story chronicles the romantic relationship of Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette. The couple died in a plane crash in 1999. He was 38, and she was 33.
The show is the fifth instalment of Murphy’s American Story franchise. Love Story stars Paul Anthony Kelly as JFK Jr. and I Know What You Did Last Summer’s Sarah Pidgeon as Bessette.
Speaking about the show in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Schlossberg said: “If you want to know someone who’s never met anyone in my family, knows nothing about us, talk to Ryan Murphy.
“The guy knows nothing about what he’s talking about, and he’s making a ton of money on a grotesque display of someone else’s life.”
Murphy is no stranger to controversy when it comes to his shows. The Ed Gein Story was criticised as “tasteless”, and All’s Fair was slated by critics.
Schlossberg had previously described Murphy’s decision to “profit off of” the Kennedy’s story as “grotesque”, a claim which Murphy shut down during an appearance on the This Is Gavin Newsom podcast.
‘I would hope that Mr. Murphy would donate some of the millions.’

“I thought it was an odd choice to be mad about your relative that you really don’t remember,” Murphy responded.
Now, Schlossberg has doubled down on his issue with Murphy making money from the Kennedys’ story.
“I would hope that Mr. Murphy would donate some of the millions of dollars of profits that he’s making to maybe some of the causes that John championed throughout his life,” Schlossberg also said.
“Maybe he would donate some of that money to the JFK library to help keep President Kennedy’s memory alive, but he’s not. He’s making money. This is not a documentary.”
Additionally, Schlossberg noted that he was frustrated by “misinformation… and iconography being used about the Kennedy family, my family, at a time when we really can’t afford to confuse people”.
He also noted Donald Trump has been using JFK “as sort of a human punching bag”. He cites Trump renaming the Kennedy Center after himself as a key example.
“We really need to take every breath that we have to try to make things better,” Schlossberg concluded.
“So, if Ryan Murphy really cares so much about the Kennedy family, my uncle John, maybe he would try to do something about getting Trump out of power.”
Schlossberg has maintained that JFK Jr’s family were not consulted nor involved in the making of the series.
Similarly, Murphy was criticised by some of the families of the victims of Jeffrey Dahmer for how the serial killer was portrayed in 2022’s Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.
