Madonna has said John F Kennedy Jr was the best lover she has ever had during a candid Grindr interview linked to promotion for her upcoming album Confessions II.

The 67-year-old singer made the comment after being asked an explicit question by designer Raul Lopez. In the exchange, Lopez asked: “Who was your best d*** down?”

Madonna replied: “I’m only going to name dead people,” before covering her mouth and whispering: “John Kennedy Jr.”

The moment took place in front of a panel that included playwright Jeremy O. Harris, RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Bob the Drag Queen, dancer Ivy Mugler and Interview magazine’s Marcello Gutierrez, alongside Lopez, according to Page Six.

After Madonna’s answer, Lopez added: “Everyone says his d*** was crazy and he was a good f***.” Madonna responded: “Mmm hmm.”

The panel was reportedly visibly stunned by Madonna’s whispered answer.

Madonna and Kennedy were linked in the late 1980s, when he was working as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan. Kennedy later married Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy in 1996, and died in a plane crash in 1999 alongside his wife and sister-in-law.

Madonna’s legacy

Madonna’s 2005 album Confessions on a Dance Floor is widely regarded as a defining mainstream dance-pop record of the 2000s.

The gay icon also has a long history of HIV/AIDS activism and LGBTQ+ advocacy.

In recent years she has toured globally, including a major career-spanning celebration tour in the mid-2020s, and she has continued to pop up in queer culture moments, including when she sent a message to queer figure skater Amber Glenn.

Kennedy’s life and legacy also remain a pop culture fixation, with renewed attention on the family in recent years, including criticism of TV dramatisations of the Kennedy story.
