Scott Mills’ love life as he’s fired from BBC over ‘personal conduct’

Scott Mills has been sacked from the BBC over an allegation into his personal conduct, it has been revealed.

The out gay presenter’s final show was on Tuesday (24 March). Best known for his BBC Radio shows, Mills has also had a number of television appearances.

Most notably, in 2024 he joined the cast of the second series of Celebrity Race Across the World with his husband Sam Vaughan. The couple, who were engaged at the time of filming, won the show.

Scott Mills is a radio host best known for presenting the aptly named Scott Mills show during his 24 years on BBC Radio 1. In 2022 he joined BBC Radio 2 and eventually took over the breakfast show.

On 30 March, The Mirror reported that Mills had had his contract terminated after an allegation about his personal conduct.

The BBC said in a statement: “While we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted to work with the BBC.”

He has also been a UK commentator for the semi-finals of the Eurovision Song Contest, though with his exit from the BBC that role will also go.

Mills came out publicly as gay in 2001, making him a rare example of an out queer broadcaster in the early 2000s.

Scott Mills and his husband Sam Vaughan got engaged in 2021, before marrying in June 2024 in a lavish Mediterranean villa on the coast just south of Barcelona. 

The pair had been together for four years before becoming engaged.

Not much is known about Vaughan, but his Instagram proudly lists his winning stint on Celebrity Race Across the World. He is also the company director of “The Christmas Jumper” which is described as “the Christmas jumper for when you’re feeling festive but not THAT festive”.

According to his LinkedIn, he is a freelance audio producer and has also worked at the BBC. He was an assistant producer on The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show and for Michelle Visage. Vaughan also was an assistant producer on Scott Mills & Chris Stark, and Patrick Kilety’s show on BBC Radio 5 Live.
