Jessie J has announced that she is now cancer free following her most recent yearly check-up.
The Price Tag singer shared the news in an Instagram video posted on 21 May.
“RESULTS ARE IN AND I AM CANCER FREE!” she wrote in the caption, with a string of crying emojis. “I sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year.”
The video shows her in a hospital gown with a cannula in her arm as she waits for an MRI.
“So I’m back for my yearly check-up,” she says nervously. “I’m actually s******* myself, I’m not going to lie.
“They told me there’s no contrast but I think there is based on this,” she continues, gesturing to her cannula.
“Gotta go in for my MRI, pretend I’m not claustrophobic. And if you haven’t heard, for a breast MRI you have to lay on your front and put your arms in the air like Superman. I might have to have a bigger bucket this time for these big old…”
She then gestures to her breasts, which she previously shared she’d had reconstructed for appearance following her mastectomy last year.
“But fingers crossed,” Jessie continues. “All good, all good, good vibes.” She then starts singing the first line to Three Little Birds by Bob Marley.
The singer quickly received a string of congratulatory messages from friends, fans and other celebrities, including Rita Ora, Michelle Visage and Gaby Roslin.
Jessie J first revealed her early breast cancer diagnosis in June last year through another video posted to her Instagram.
“Cancer sucks in any form but I’m holding onto the word ‘early’,” she said. “I just wanted to be open and share it. One, because, selfishly, I do not talk about it enough. I’m not processing it because I’m working so hard.”
She continued: “I also know how much sharing in the past has helped me with other people giving me their love and support and also their own stories. I’m an open book.
“It breaks my heart that so many people are going through so much similar and worse – that’s the bit that kills me.”
She went on to make a joke about getting surgery, explaining that she would be “getting to keep [her] nipples” and the procedure was “a very dramatic way to get a boob job”.
In the caption, she shared another quip, asking whether it was “too soon” to create a remix of her recent single “Living My Best Life” entitled “Living My Breast Life”.
“All jokes aside (you know it’s one of the ways I get through hard times), these last 2 months have been so amazing, and having this go on alongside it on the sidelines has given me the most incredible perspective,” she wrote.
“BUT… Your girl needs a hug. Also not getting massive tits. Or am I? No no… I must stop joking.”
