JD Vance is being mocked online for saying there’s something “suggestive” about the way Joe Biden eats ice cream.
Yes, really.
The vice-president made the remark during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, while attempting to take a swipe at the former president’s well-documented love of an ice cream cone.
“The thing I couldn’t get over Biden is… the way that he ate ice cream,” Vance said. “I mean, it’s like, we can bring some of the stuff up, but it’s like they would get him eating ice cream in the most ridiculous, suggestive way imaginable.”
Host Joe Rogan replied that he had “never even paid attention to that”. The pair then moved on to discuss the perils of eating a corn dog in public, with Rogan declaring: “You have to be a very manly man to be able to confidently eat a corn dog.”
The internet was baffled, with many leaping to Biden’s defence and turning the comment back on Vance.
“JD Vance thinks about sex when watching Joe Biden eat ice cream,” wrote Pod Save America co-host Dan Pfeiffer.
One user branded him “a very weird dude”, while another said: “It’s pathetic to think the VP of the United States is even talking like this.”
The Daily Show also weighed in, with correspondent Michael Kosta poking fun at Vance: “Suggestive? I remember seeing Joe Biden eating ice cream, but I don’t remember pitching a tent over it,” he said.
“Ever meet someone with a kink, and they assume you have it too?” Kosta argued Vance had it all wrong, noting that Biden “uses his teeth; he’s biting it like a shark”.
