Educational MyGender Dolls branded ‘perverted’ by right-wing media

Educational MyGender Dolls, which were developed at the University of Minnesota, were recently put on blast on Newsmax show Greg Kelly Reports.
News anchor E. D. Hill began the segment by saying that Donald Trump is attempting to save children from “indoctrination by radical liberals who feel it’s okay to drug and mutilate them”.
She then introduced the paper dolls, which allow children to build an image of how they see themselves, complete with customisable add-ons, including hairstyles, skin tones, clothing, internal reproductive organs and external genitalia.
Moms for Liberty’s director of development, Rosalind Hanson, appeared on the show to give her take. When asked why four-year-olds need genitals on their dolls, Hanson said: “The short answer is: they don’t.”
She continued: “There is biology. There is XX, XY, and we can go back to paper dolls that we all remember where we can pick out their clothes, and we can have a great time playing with dolls without worrying about confusing children as young as four years old.”
The anchor then went on to point out that the dolls are aimed at “professionals” in “educational settings” as well as children, and that they can be used as training materials.
“What would they be training them for? How to indoctrinate four-year-old kids, impressionable four-year-old kids?” Hill asked.
“That’s exactly what they’re doing,” replied a second guest, political strategist Tiffany Marie Brannon. “There has been such a massive and evil push to indoctrinate young children, the younger the better, with this kind of really warped and twisted transgender ideology that the best thing they can do is get them younger and younger.”
Brannon then brought up the right-wing talking point of LGBTQ+ children’s books. “If you go to any kind of children’s bookstore these days, it is shocking how much really inappropriate sexual garbage is being placed on these bookshelves for children as young as three years old when they start reading picture books,” she said.
“Really what you see is an indoctrination mass brainwashing and they are coming after their children, and the best way to do it is through toys. It’s through something that’s playful. It’s through something that appears innocent but has really dark and twisted, sexually perverted interiors and motives.”
The concept of the dolls was explained in a now-removed 2020 article that was published on the University of Minnesota website in 2020.
“There are no well-studied tools that can make the abstract concept of gender come to life in a tangible, interactive experience, says the University of Minnesota’s Dianne Berg, PhD,” it read.
“That’s why she and her colleagues at the National Center for Gender Spectrum Health (NCGSH), housed within the Medical School’s Eli Coleman Institute for Sexual and Gender Health, are developing an innovative answer.”
The official MyGender Dolls website describes them as “a new play-based therapeutic approach for trans and gender diverse children – and the clinicians who support them”.
“We make gender fun,” the site continues. “Our award-winning dolls and services are community-informed, research-driven, culturally-attuned, and grounded in gender-affirming clinical practice.”
