Hunter Biden says he’s ‘48.5% gay’ as he jokes about his type in men

Hunter Biden has gone viral after joking about being “48.5 percent gay”, with the number shifting throughout the conversation.
In an 80-minute chat with Luke Beasley, a gay progressive political commentator, Biden was asked if he was gay too.
Biden replied: “Only a little bit.” When Beasley pressed him on whether he was more or less than 50 per cent gay, Biden answered: “48.6,” though the figure kept changing as the pair continued speaking.
Biden later quipped: “I think a little bit more masculine would be my type, if I were gay.”
At another point, he joked that his “gaydom” had dropped to 47 per cent. Near the end of the interview, he returned to the running total, saying: “I just want to let you know that I am back up to 48.5 percent gay.”
Hunter Biden and the ‘closetocracy’
Earlier this year, Biden claimed there were a number of closeted gay men in US politics.
In July, he appeared on the I’ve Had It podcast and argued Washington was influenced by a Republican “closetocracy”, saying: “Everybody knows there is this closeted gay mafia, largely Republican, that exists in Washington, DC.”
While he did not mention any individuals, he suggested it was the toll of living in secrecy that “creates so much vitriol inside a person that they take it out on the rest of the world”. “And they do,” he added.
He continued: “Their whole lives they’ve been closeted and so you have this… blackened heart by the fact that you can’t be who you want to be, so you take it out on everybody else.”
His comments divided social media users, with some finding it ironic given the Republican party’s history of opposing LGBTQ+ rights, while others suggested it only pushed a harmful stereotype of a self-hating “closet case”.
Biden, the second son of former US President Joe Biden, has spoken publicly for years about addiction and recovery, including in a memoir, and has said he has been sober since June 2019.
