Bake Off 2026 drag king Gabe had sneaky way of revealing he was on show
Gabe Capes is on The Great British Bake Off (Love Productions)
New Great British Bake Off contestant Gabe Capes, also known by his drag persona Blü Romantic, actually started revealing he was on the Channel 4 show in March.
Capes, who uses he/they pronouns, is one of 12 bakers announced for the 2026 series, which returns on 22 September with new judge Nigella Lawson.
The 32-year-old “daddy of Birmingham drag” is also a costume designer, whose work has been seen on RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.
And it sounds like Capes has had a lot of fun being on the show, revealing after his casting announcement that he’d already told his X followers.
In an X post, Capes wrote: “Inspired by Kate Butch I think you should read the first letter of my last few tweets.”
And, if you do that, starting with that post, you will see the message: “I am on The Great British Bake Off.”
The secret message started on 10 March, in a post celebrating Fynn winning The Great Pottery Throw Down.
His followers were impressed with the dedication to keeping the secret message going.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star Pasty commented: “We need to bake together ASAP. So iconic diva! Can’t wait to watch.”
Someone else said: “Oh you are the coolest I cannot wait to see what you do.”

The Great British Bake Off starts Tuesday, 22 September at 8pm on Channel 4.
