Elon Musk cut Vivian Wilson off health insurance after she came out, says ex

Vivian Jenna Wilson is the daughter of Elon Musk

Justine Wilson claims Elon Musk cut off their daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson’s health insurance the day after she came out as trans, after telling Justine to pass on the message: “I’ll always love her.”

Wilson makes the allegation in Alex Gibney’s documentary Musk, which is open in select cinemas now and due for US release on 16 October. The film is a roughly four-hour deep dive into Musk’s career and personal life.

Wilson, a Canadian author who has written about her marriage to Musk and the power dynamics in their relationship, also says in the documentary that Musk treated Vivian’s transition like the “death of a child”. She recalls pushing back by referencing the couple’s first son, Nevada, who died in 2002 aged 10 weeks old.

What does Wilson say happened between Musk and Vivian?

In the documentary, Wilson reportedly describes Vivian, 22, as “extremely strong-willed”, and says tensions between father and daughter went back years, as per People. She recalls Musk telling Vivian when she was six: “In this world there are winners and losers. Do you want to be a winner or do you want to be a loser?”

“The subtext there was, ‘If you do not follow me and do what I say, you will be a loser,’” Wilson claims.

Wilson also says Vivian was in “pain” after Musk posted on X that he felt he had lost her to the “woke mind virus”. Wilson says: “Elon was telling her, through telling the world, what that point of view actually was. And Elon never tried to repair things, that’s not in his nature.”

Wilson also describes what she says was Musk’s attitude to the breakdown in their relationship: “If a relationship ruptures, then it ruptures.”

Where does Vivian stand now?

Vivian, who is transgender, is estranged from Musk and dropped his last name in 2022.

In July, when Musk posted that his “son” had been “killed by the woke mind virus”, Vivian responded by lip-syncing a RuPaul’s Drag Race line: “I look pretty good for a dead b***.” She later turned one of Musk’s anti-trans phrases into merchandise raising money for LGBTQ+ youth charity The Trevor Project.

Musk did not participate in Gibney’s film and has publicly ridiculed it as a “hit piece”. People also reports that an attorney for Musk has threatened legal action over what they claim are factual distortions in the documentary.
