The Venue in One Sentence
Cheap, friendly and good music in a slightly dingy basement beneath central London.
A Bit About the Venue
Open since the early part of this century, Ghetto is a popular hang out for students and hipply alternative gay Londoners. The music varies from rock to indie to trashy pop with owner/ promoter Simon Hobart DJing on their most popular night, Saturday’s Wig Out.
What We Like
Ghetto has some of the most friendly door staff in London. They’re polite and won’t go mad if you get pissed, they’ll even help you limp out of the club get some fresh air and take you back down to your mates on the dance floor.
The crowd ranges from 18 year old twinks to hip twenty somethings who are attractive and out for a good time.
Drinks are reasonably priced served by smiling bar staff.
The music is electric and the DJs actually read the requests that you put in and do their best to make sure they play your favourite tunes.
What We Don’t Like
The club is small so there tends to be queues for everything, to get in, to get to the bar, the toilet and the cloakroom.
The size and location (in a basement) means it can get quite stuffy and if you’re a non-smoker you’ll hate the fact that you will really stink by the end of the night.
There’s no food (except for peanuts and olives), no cash machine and most of the time you won’t get any network coverage on your mobile phone.
