Gay hotel is top London hotspot
A gay hotel has become the number one place to stay in London, according to traveller review website trip advisor.com.
Griffin House Holiday Apartments have only been opened for 6 months and top the list ahead of London institutions like Claridges and The Lanesborough.
The holiday apartments are situated in Stockwell, not perhaps the likeliest of London’s tourist areas, but a location that appeals to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender travellers because it is just a short walk from the burgeoning gay scene of Vauxhall.
The hotels’ rankings are arrived at by the ratings it receives from tripadvisor users who have stayed there. Accommodation is given a star rating for the categories of rooms, service, value and cleanliness.
Reviewers are encouraged to write honest reviews of their experience on the website, and include photographs as well.
Partners Ben Brandstaettter and Nic Kynaston, Griffin House Holiday Apartments owners, started the apartments at the beginning of this year in response to the lack of gay-orientated accommodation in the capital.
Mr Kynaston said: “We’re absolutely delighted to be tripadvisor’s number one rated place to stay in London. We started the business as we felt there was a real gap in the market for gay travellers here in London who wanted reasonably priced holiday accommodation with the emphasis on high standards and value for money.
“To be number one on one of the Internet’s most popular travel websites in such a short time shows people agree with us.”
