Colin and Justin set a date for civil ceremony
Interior designers Colin McAllister and Justin Ryan are to become civil partners. The Channel Five stars revealed their plans to LondonLite newspaper yesterday.
The duo have become household names with programmes like Million Pound Property Experiment and How Not To Decorate.
Justin, 38, revealed that they plan to have the ceremony in March, but in contrast to their flamboyant designs, it will be a small ceremony, with just the happy couple and two witnesses attending.
Colin, 37, met Justin 22 years ago, in a Glasgow nightclub. A source close to the couple told LondonLite, “They feel the time is right to form a civil partnership. They have been together for a long, long time and can’t imagine life without one another. They are practically married anyway but they want to seal the relationship.”
The source also revealed that the couple are thinking about having children, though the pressures of fame mean that they may not do so for some time, “They understand how difficult it will be for a child to have two dads so they want to make sure that he or she has the most stable home life possible.
“If they are travelling round the country that won’t be the case.”
This is not the first time the Scottish duo have told the press they intend to get hitched. As part of the publicity for their series Colin and Justin’s Wedding Belles, the couple gave an interview to The Scotsman detailing their desire for a big wedding.
The series, in which Colin and Justin plan weddings, displayed their trademark “stress TV,” in which they bitch and bicker endlessly over detail.
“We wanted a big lovely commitment to each other,” Justin told The Scotsman .
“And also we’ve been to a million weddings and watched couples enjoy lovely matrimonial bliss and then get divorced three years later having bought them a washing machine or a microwave.”
“You just implied we’re doing it for a John Lewis wedding list,” asked Colin.
“John Lewis? I’m doing Heals, Conran store, Harvey Nichols,” said Justin. “No, we’re getting married for the right reasons.”
