Southern Baptist in “babies born gay” row
One of America’s foremost evangelical clergymen has angered many Christians by saying there might be a biological explanation for homosexuality.
Rev. R. Albert Mohler wrote in an article on his website earlier this month entitled “Is Your Baby Gay? What If You Could Know? What If You Could Do Something About It?”
In it he says that while being gay might be a biological reality, it is still sinful.
Gay rights advocates Human Rights Watch accused Mohler of “playing God” for saying that treating a foetus in the womb to reverse homosexuality would be Biblically justified.
HRC spokesman Harry Knox said: “He’s more than willing to let homophobia take over and be the determinant of how he responds to this issue, in spite of everything else he believes about not tinkering with the unborn.”
Mohler said Christians should be prepared for the fact that homosexuality could be a naturally occurring phenomenon, but that hormones could be used to alter make the unborn child heterosexual.
“I realise this sounds very offensive to homosexuals, but it’s the only way a Christian can look at it,” Mohler wrote, according to azcentral.com
“We should have no more problem with that than treating any medical problem.”
