One of the most prominent political reporters in the country is to take up presenting duties at a London radio station.

Andrew Pierce, the assistant editor of the Daily Telegraph, has been given his own Sunday morning show on LBC 97.3FM.

Last year Mr Pierce was named as the sixth most powerful LGBT person in British politics in the Top 50 list.

“A ball of giggles, gossip, scandal and kinetic energy, Pierce is an interesting mix of rebel and establishment figure,” his citation read.

“He was an out and proud political correspondent when such things were regarded as scandalous (1988), yet these days he moves in Royal circles and seems to know every important person in London.

“His career has been spent at the right-wing end of the newspaper spectrum; he left The Times after nearly 20 years to take up the assistant editor role at the Daily Telegraph.

Andrew Pierce And Friends is a weekend politics and current affairs programme, starting on Sunday 2nd March at 11am.

Speaking to today, Mr Pierce said he was looking forward to hosting his own show.

“I have eclectic interests and a wide circle of friends, some of whom of course are gay,” he said.

“London’s radio landscape is hardly saturated with gay voices, never mind intelligent ones, so hopefully my show will go some way towards rectifying that lack of representation.”

As well as discussions of news and politics the show will feature interviews with high-profile guests and celebrities making the headlines, plus a satirical review of the week’s major stories.

LBC, London’s leading talk radio station, is best-known as the home of Nick Ferrari.

Gay presenters include Bill Buckley, who hosts overnight shows and the Sunday afternoon Food and Drink Show, and show business reporter Cristo Foufas.

Jonathan Richards, the station’s programme director, welcomed Mr Pierce to LBC:

“Andrew combines wit and charm with an incisive political brain. His new Sunday show will be a mixture of coffee, charisma and unmissable conversation.

“I’m delighted to have secured such an emerging radio talent for a show which promises to be the best possible way to spend Sunday brunch in London.”

Andrew Pierce and friends will be broadcast live every Sunday (11am – 2pm) on LBC 97.3 FM, starting Sunday 2nd March.

LBC 97.3 FM broadcasts on 97.3 FM and is also available across the UK on DAB digital radio and online at
