Big Brother features a gay – again
The ninth series of Channel Four’s Big Brother has begun with sixteen housemates, the most that the programme has ever seen.
This year, there is one gay housemate, a blind man, a crossdresser, and an albino.
Denis, 23, a student and teacher from Edinburgh, is the gay housemate.
Davina McCall announced that he’s a Will and Grace fan and if he could he would make it law for everyone to wear fake tan.
Apparently his dream job is to be a dancer or a a personal shopper. He claims he always gets comments on his “fabulous” eyes and sparkling white teeth.
Apparently “he will spend a typical day stressing out in front of the mirror and getting changed about three times before going out, and believes housemates may nominate him out of jealousy.”
33 year old Michael lost his sight while undergoing an operation ten years ago.
He’s an award winning radio producer and performs stand-up comedy in women’s clothes.
A couple, Mario and Lisa, from Warrington entered the house first. They were followed by students Luke and Stephanie.
Mario and Stephanie will pretend to the house that they are really a couple and will marry in a real ceremony.
Last year’s Big Brother contained alledged homophobia. A report by broadcasting watchdog Ofcom cleared Channel 4 over the repeated use of the word ‘poof’ by a contestant on reality TV show Big Brother.
There is no indication that housemate Laura Williams intended to be homophobic when using the word, said Ofcom, who ruled the show did not breach any guidelines when it showed contestants using offensive language.
Channel 4 was accused of double standards after it treated gay slurs less seriously than racist terminology on Big Brother.
Ofcom’s report accepted that as the use of the word ‘poof’ was less offensive than the use of the word ‘nigger’ by another housemate as that comment was addressed at a black person, whereas ‘poof’ was not directed at a gay person.
