2008 Stonewall Award nominees announced
This November’s annual Stonewall Awards as shortlist has been revealed.
The awards ceremony, sponsored by Barclays, will celebrate people who have had a positive impact on the lives of British LGBT people.
Nominees for Entertainer of the Year include Simon Amstell from Never Mind the Buzzcocks, singer Sam Sparro, Maestro winner Sue Perkins, and Queen of Shops host Mary Portas.
Thelondonpaper columnist Joshua Hunt, Daily Mirror agony aunt Miriam Stoppard, and Julie Bindel from The Guardian are among the nominees for the Journalist of the Year award.
Time Out, Out in the City, The Independent and Attitude are among the publications shortlisted for publications awards, whilst the nominees for the Broadcast and Broadcaster of the Year shortlist includes Wife Swap, Fi Glover, Skins and Sandi Toksvig.
Politicians shortlisted for an award include Labour peer and veteran equality campaigner Lord Alli, Liberal Democrat peer Lord Carlile, and Justice Minister Maria Eagle.
Iris Robinson, the MP who caused controversy with her comments about homosexuality on Ulster radio earlier this year, has been nominated for the Bigot of the Year award, whilst gay Bishop Gene Robinson is in the running for Hero of the Year.
The winner of the Stonewall & Barclays Community Group of the Year will receive a cheque for £5,000.

The ceremony will take place at 7pm on Thursday 6th November at the V&A in London.
