Janelle Monae says she’s not a lesbian

Singer Janelle Monae has said she is not gay and claims to only date androids.

The rising star, whose debut album The ArchAndroid has led to comparisons with Prince, dismissed rumours about her sexuality.

She told Rolling Stone Magazine: “The lesbian community has tried to claim me, but I only date androids. Nothing like an android, they don’t cheat on you.”

Monae also explained her dress sense of a “uniform” of a suit, tie and brogues.

“I call it my ‘uniform’,” she said. “My mother was a janitor and my father collected trash, so I wear a uniform too.

“I’m trying to open doors for girls who look like myself and have been told they can’t sing about this or that.”
