Carlisle men fined for shouting abuse at trans women
Two men from Carlisle have been fined for shouting abuse at two transgender women in the street.
Carlisle magistrates’ court heard that Wayne Blair and Stephen Currie, both 22, had threatened Simone Armstrong and Kim Oakland and yelled anti-gay abuse at them.
Blair and Currie admitted harassing the pair last July, the News & Star reports.
The court was told that they had driven past Ms Armstrong, who they knew from school, and Ms Oakland.
Blair threatened to give them a “welting and both men shouted abuse at them.
The men were told that they would be fined “as much as we possibly can” because the harassment was unprovoked, sexually-oriented and took place in public.
They were each given an £85 fine with £75 costs and told to pay a £15 victim surcharge.
They were also handed a 12-month restraining order banning them from contacting the women.
