US: Gay ‘Glee’ actor Jonathan Groff to appear in comedy TV pilot
Jonathan Groff, gay actor and partner of Zachary Quinto, will play a leading role in an upcoming comedy pilot about the lives of three gay men living in San Francisco.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Groff, a stage and screen actor best known for his role as Jesse St James on Glee, will play a gay video games developer named Patrick in an untitled pilot on US cable channel HBO.
Groff came out as “gay and proud” in 2009, and in September 2012 ‘American Horror Story’ actor Zachary Quinto revealed that the two were dating, saying he was “incredibly happy”.
The pilot for the show, produced by Sarah Condon and David Marshall Grant of ‘Brothers and Sisters’ and written by Michael Lannan of ‘Remember Me’, has already been described as a version of ‘Sex and the City’ for gay men in their thirties.
Out.com says: “Just like its Girls and Sex and the City predecessors, this untitled project features a group of friends as they try to find footing in a concrete jungle. But these boys are a bit older than their Girls counterparts, so here’s to hoping for less woe-is-me angst and more adult-driven trivialities.”
