A trans and human rights activist has been elected to the Wirral branch of the youth wing of the Conservative Party.

Tara Hewitt, current affairs commentator, political blogger, diversity consultant, and school governor, was elected this week as the new Chair of Wirral Conservative Future.

She said: “I’m very happy to be elected the new Chair of Wirral Conservative Future. I’m looking forward as a priority to building stronger links with local Liverpool, West Cheshire and other North West Conservative Future branches going forward.

“We are a diverse family as a party and I’m proud to be friends with other inspiring young conservative activists across the region and the UK. Its important to give all our members an opportunity to interact socially, to share ideas & help shape future policy.

“Following a year where I’m proud that a Conservative led government made the historic step to introduce equal marriage, I can say that LGBT members as much as any other are as at the heart of the conservative party and leading on our vision for a diverse and successful Britain.

“I’m looking forward to Conservative Party Conference, supporting the fabulous work of LGBTory and focusing on policies which will help improve the economy which benefit us all.”
