AB Fab and Rocky Horror star dies aged 67
Christopher Malcolm, best known for playing the long suffering gay divorced husband of Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous, has died.
The stage and TV actor appeared in the BBC comedy from 1992 to 2011.
His character was often at the receiving end of jokes that suggested his tumultuous and short marriage to Eddy (played by Jennifer Saunders) may have left an imprint with his preference for men.
Christopher Malcolm also had a major contribution to the LGBT cult classic, The Rocky Horror Show.
Having played Brad Majors in the original stage production in 1974 and co-produced the 1990 West End revival, he then took charge of producing all performances of Richard O’Brien’s ground breaking musical.
Speaking to PinkNews in 2011, O’Brien said he never realised the musical and 1975 film would become such an everlasting hit.
Other British theatre productions produced by Malcolm include both Flashdance and Footloose the Musical, Simon Callow’s revival of The Pajama Game, A Slip of the Tongue starring John Malkovich and Single Spies written by Alan Bennett.
He is survived by his wife, the actor Judy Lloyd, and his three children and grandson.
