A couple in the US state of Florida have asked for a judge to fast track a ruling on same-sex marriage.

Circuit Judge Luis Garcia ruled in favour of same-sex marriage last week, overturning Monroe County’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. Attorney General Pam Bondi then filed an appeal to put the ban back in place.

Likewise, after a judge in Miama-Dade County made a similar ruling at the weekend, and Bondi is again expected to appeal.

The attorneys for Aaron Huntsman and William Lee Jones asked for the Third District Court of Appeal to exercise “pass through” jurisdiction and for the case to go directly to the Florida high court.

The court previously denied a request to overturn the stay, and to allow same-sex couples to marry immediately.

Over 7000 people signed a petition calling on Bondi to stop wasting resources fighting against same-sex marriage.
