The winner of Miss Spain 2013 has revealed that she is gay.

Patricia Yurena Rodríguez, who won the modelling competition last year, posted a photo on Instagram with her partner, the Spanish DJ and singer Vanesa Klein, with the caption “Romeo and Juliet”.

The model previously represented Spain in the 2013 Miss Universe competition, held in Moscow, Russia.

She told La Opinión de Tenerife: “I don’t regret what I did and I did it because I’m happy about what’s going on in my life.

She posted on Twitter: “Thanks for all your comments.

“I published the picture completely spontaneously and in an impulsive manner. Thank you for all your support.”

Earlier this year, French magazine Têtu refused to disqualify a man from their ‘Mister Gay 2014′ competition, after he endorsed a far-right party and was accused of racism./a>

Têtu editor-in-chief Yannick Barbe claimed: “It’s his right to vote for [Front Nationale], even if we don’t share his beliefs.

“This is a beauty pageant, and our readers’ vote was only based on a single criterion!

“He only stands for himself, and certainly not for the gay community. [Excluding him] would be censorship, and the best way to victimize him.”
