US: San Diego judge bans man from using Grindr

A judge has banned a man from using Grindr, because he is accused of intentionally spreading HIV.

Thomas Miguel Guerra has pleaded not guilty to a charge of knowingly infecting his ex-partner with HIV.

The claimant, who has not been named, alleges that Mr Guerra has infected at least two dozen men with HIV, some of them minors.

He had previously been in a long-term relationship with the 29-year-old.

This week, Superior Court Judge Dan Link approved bail conditions which ban Mr Guerra from using internet dating sites and hookup apps, including Grindr.

California law requires a person living with HIV to disclose their positive status to potential partners.

Mr Guerra’s next hearing is scheduled to take place on October 16, with a trial set for November.

A New Jersey man last week launched a lawsuit against Grindr, claiming the app’s lack of age verification led him to hook up with a 13-year-old.

Earlier this month, an alleged ‘security breach’ in the app’s location software allegedly came to light, allowing hackers to pinpoint users’ exact locations.
