Baroness Stowell who led same-sex marriage through the Lords, promoted in reshuffle
The Tory peer responsible for guiding the same-sex marriage legislation for England and Wales through the House of Lords has been promoted in the ongoing Government reshuffle.
Baroness Stowell of Beeston was appointed the Leader of the House of Lords last year, wasĀ in charge of guiding the Marriage (Same-Sex Couples) ActĀ through the Lords in 2013.
Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter that Baroness Stowell would become a full member of the cabinet, as she remains the Leader of the House of Lords and Lord Privy Seal.

TheĀ former Head of Corporate Affairs for the BBC, was in 2013Ā made a junior minister at the Department for Communities and Local Government.
Baroness StowellĀ was named Politician of the Year at the 2013 PinkNews Awards, alongsideĀ Yvette Cooper. Baroness Stowell was also named Peer of the Year at the 2013 Spectator Awards.
Baroness Stowell during debate around the equal marriage bill used a fictional marriage to actor George Clooney, in order to explain to the House the difference between adultery and unacceptable behaviour.
Speaking at the PinkNews Debate 2015, Baroness StowellĀ said it will be impossible to forget the āwrongā done by the Conservatives through policies such as Section 28.
