Netflix orders second season of Grace and Frankie, thanks to Miley Cyrus
Netflix has ordered a second season of sitcom Grace and Frankie – and Miley Cyrus has been credited with helping the project secure renewal.
TheĀ comedyĀ series starsĀ Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin Ā ā who previously appearedĀ together in the cult classic 9 to 5 āĀ asĀ two womenĀ Ā left abandonedĀ when their husbands declare their love for eachother.
The first season debuted earlier this year toĀ broadly positive reviews, and the show has now been picked up for a second run.
The show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman said in a statement: “Let me say, itās so awesome to do a show on Netflix.
“Because two and a half weeks after we launched, Miley Cyrus does a tweet about your show, and they call and say, ‘Weād like to do a season two.’
“So yes, there is a season two. We have Ted [Sarandos] and Miley to thank.”
The second season is set to air in 2016 – and marks the latest addition to Netflix’s roster of big-budget LGBT-focussed content, sitting alongside Orange is the New Black.
Speculation that the third star of 9 to 5, Dolly Parton, would be making a cameo in the first season never materialised – but the renewal raises hope that she could be included in season two.
Jane Fonda recently revealed that she nearly married a “very famous actor” before he came out as gay.
She said: “When I was young, I was the female that gay guys wanted to try to become heterosexual with. A very famous actor whoās gay ā and I will not name names ā asked me to marry him.”
