LISTEN: Conchita Wurst is back and she’s looking for a good man
Eurovision diva Conchita Wurst is back, and she’s fiercer than ever.
The bearded Austrian drag artist, who rose to fame in 2014 when she was the surprise winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, released her new single this week.
The track, titled ‘Where Have All The Good Men Gone?’ chronicles pain at finding a decent lover.
She sings: “We got divorced guys, lonely guys, men who never leave their wives… tell me: Where have all the good men gone?
“Tell me: Why they’re taken or they’re just playin’ wrong – so wrong?”
The track is the fourth cut from her album ‘Conchita’, which topped the Austrian charts on release – though it languished outside the top 100 on the UK charts.
Conchita has become a champion for LGBT rights since winning Eurovision last year – performing at both the United Nations and European Parliament.
She can’t be everywhere at once, though – earlier this year the male producer of Sweden’s Eurovision selection show made headlines by slipping into her dress and heels himself when Conchita failed to make it to a dress rehearsal.
The Eurovision diva has been candid about her rise to fame – saying doesn’t feel deserving of the title ‘gay icon’.
She said: “I’m not really comfortable, if I’m honest, because I don’t see myself as an icon.
“It’s an honour to be called that, obviously, but I think to be an icon or to be a role model you need to have made an effort… and it takes no effort to be myself.
“So I think that I will keep on speaking out about my beliefs, and I will keep on fighting for what I think is right, and if there are people out there who want to join me, then I will welcome them very warmly.”
