A Eurovision singer who caused controversy by kissing her female backing dancer has revealed plans to return to the contest.

Krista Siegfrids represented Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, with her memorable wedding-themed song ‘Marry Me’.

The song included the lyrics “Marry me, I’ll be your Queen Bee/I’ll love you endlessly” – and despite the music video featuring a male lover, Siegfrids caused controversy in some conservative countries by instead locking lips with a woman during her live performance.

The kiss was censored from broadcasts in countries including China, while it is alleged to have caused Turkey to scrap plans to broadcast the competition entirely. It also failed to impress audiences, placing 24th out of 26 countries in the final.

The singer today revealed plans for a Eurovision comeback in 2016 – this time for neighbouring Sweden.

Siegfrids was confirmed as part of the line-up for Sweden’s Melodifestivalen contest – the winner of which will earn a ticket to the Eurovision grand final.

Eurovision is serious business in Sweden, however – and Siegfrids faces stiff competition from 27 other acts over an extended six-week tournament.

Her new song is titled ‘Faller’ – but the singer won’t reveal much about it, other than “it is about love”.

Speaking about her previous song in 2013, she explained: “I don’t think ‘Marry Me’ is political. It’s about love and tolerance. But gay marriage is not allowed in Finland and that’s wrong. I wanted to make a statement about that.
