Two Moroccan teenagers have been arrested for the murder of a Swedish gay man in a suspected hate crime.

The boys-aged 16 and 19- had travelled to Sweden before allegedly sleeping rough on the streets of Bergsjon where they met the victim, who took them home and offered them food and clothing.

Once inside the apartment, they attacked the man and filmed it on a mobile phone, police claim.

The footage shows the teens hitting the man whilst he is on the floor and shouting gay slurs.

The murder – which took place in June this year – then took a more grisly turn, as a dead snake was placed on the victims body, after the pair had allegedly dressed him in female clothing.

In the accused’s home country of Morocco, gay sex is a crime and is punishable with a sentence from between six months to three years in prison.

The 16 year old has been charged by police for a hate crime murder, but in an interview with investigators he claims he was acting in self defence after the Swedish man tried to have sex with him.

The second man, 19, has been charged with aiding and abetting a criminal.

However, he denies the allegations, claiming he was with the younger teen at the time but did not take part in the attack.

The two men are due to stand trial for the crime.
