Watch: These Jews and Arabs locked lips to send a powerful message
A group of Israeli Jews and Arabs are attempting to send a powerful message of protest – by locking lips with eachother.
A number of everyday Israelis took part in the ‘Jews and Arabs Kiss’ campaign for Time Out Israel – which was commenting on the banning of a book featuring an Arab-Jewish love story.
The news site explained: “The Israeli Ministry of Education decided to ban a book describing an affair between a Jewish woman and an Arab man from the school curriculum.
“So Time Out Tel Aviv decided to ask Jews and Arabs to meet and kiss.
“Six couples of Jews and Arabs – male and female, gay and straight – have decided to do the ‘forbidden deed’ and express love in front of our camera.
“Some of them were couples, some just friends, some have never met prior to the shoot.”
Israel’s newest openly gay MP was sworn in last month – but many Members of Parliament snubbed the ceremony.
Amir Ohana took up a spot in the Knesset for the right-wing Likud party – the Ultra-Orthodox lawmakers of the United Torah Judaism party boycotting the event, while the Shas Party also snubbed it.
The UTJ party claimed it does not plan to engage with Mr Ohana in any way, instructing lawmakers to “ignore him, today and altogether.”
