Caitlyn Jenner gets ‘more flak for being Republican than being trans’
The former Olympian says she has received more backlash for being Republican than for being trans.
Caitlyn Jenner has discussed her political views during a recent discussion at the University of Pennsylvania.
The reality TV star was asked why she was not a Democrat, given the partyās continued support of LGBT rights.
āI have gotten more flak for being a conservative Republican than I have for being trans,ā she said.
āJust because you change gender doesnāt mean you change your core beliefs,ā added journalist Buzz Bissinger, author of Jennerās infamous Vanity Fair piece and upcoming tell-all book.
Jenner also rubbished the suggestion that she transitioned for fame.
āI donāt need the money. So I donāt understand that claim,ā she said.
āNo one transitions for financial gain. No way. You donāt do it unless you know deep down in your soul that itās the right thing to do.
āIf I canāt be honest with myself about what Iām doing, Iām no good for anything.ā
Jenner was also quick to note that she doesnāt consider herself a spokesperson for the transgender community, even if the media portray her that way.
The star received a barrage of criticism after she revealed she still plans to vote for a Republican Presidential candidate ā despite most of the contenders being staunch opponents of trans and LGB rights.
Music and film legend Bette Midler was among those to hit out at Jennerās decision.
āPeople, #CaitlynJenner says she is STILL voting GOP in 2016,ā she wrote.
āRegardless of gender identity, I guess she identifies most as āuninformed.āā
