Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi has served some Vashta Nerada-level shade to Prime Minister Theresa May.

The actor was appearing on the Andrew Marr Show yesterday ahead of the beloved sci-fi show’s Christmas special, which airs on Christmas Day.

During the interview, he was informed that UK Prime Minister Theresa May is a reported fan of the annual special.

The PM said previously of her holiday plans: “I always like to see Doctor Who on Christmas night, if possible, and a nice Agatha Christie to curl up with.”

Mr Capaldi said: “That was quite a surprise that she was so keen on it.

“I hope she takes its message of tolerance and kindness and compassion to heart.”

The revival of the show, which returned to screens in 2005, has a strong following among LGBT fans due to its queer and diverse range of characters, from omnisexual Captain Jack Harkness to interspecies married lesbian crime-fighters Madame Vastra and Jenny.

The show also recently confirmed once-and-for-all  that Time Lords can switch gender when they regenerate – a process allowing them to take on a new physical form.

The matter was settled on-screen last year in episode Hell Bent, which featured the Doctor reluctantly shooting fellow Time Lord The General (Ken Bones) in a bid to escape.

The old white male Time Lord surprised fans – by regenerating into a black woman (T’Nia Miller).

She said: “Back to normal, am I? Only time I’ve been a man, that last body. Dear lord, how do you cope with all that ego?”
