David Furnish shares emotional moment he becomes British citizen with husband Elton
Elton John’s other half, David Furnish, has shared the emotional moment he officially became a British citizen.
David Furnish has lived in the UK for almost three decades, but only now made his citizenship official.
He married Elton John in 2014, after same-sex marriages became legal in England and Wales.
Following the ceremony, Furnish is a citizen of both Canada and the UK.
He posted a snap to Instagram of the moment, holding hands with his two young sons.
He wrote: “A very emotional morning for me.
“This morning, I was sworn in as a British citizen.
“As an immigrant, I moved to the UK more than 27 years years ago.
“I was welcomed with open arms.
“This spirit of acceptance, tolerance and diversity has allowed me to achieve a life beyond my wildest dreams.
“I am a very blessed man, and I am extremely proud to now carry both British and Canadian passports. ???? @eltonjohn #ShareTheLove”
