Exclusive: The Sun deletes story outing nurse who had been a gay porn star
PinkNews Exclusive
The Sun newspaper has told PinkNews it has removed a story in which it outed a nurse as an ex gay porn star.
There was outrage after the paper published the article as an “exclusive” on its website, needlessly outing the newly qualified nurse.
A spokesperson for The Sun told PinkNews: “I can confirm we’ve removed the article
“A number of readers raised concerns and we’ve listened to those concerns and removed the article.”
The tabloid paper had ‘revealed’ that a newly qualified nurse used to do adult film scenes, apparently appearing in 23 X-rated movies.
But readers and LGBT rights advocates reacted angrily to the story – asking why there was a need to publish it at all.
It’s now been taken down from the website.
The paper had gone to extreme lengths to identify the man, which PinkNews has chosen not to.
Not only did they name the porn actor-come-nurse in the article, but posted numerous pictures of him taken from online profiles.
They even followed the 23-year-old man to his home, secretly snapping him putting the bins out.
However they offer no public interest case for why they outed the nurse as having done sex scenes in the past.
The paper quoted a ‘source’ who said: “No one at the hospital knew of his background. He’s only just got the job.”
The hospital involved has declined to comment on the case.
Publishing the story in the first place could have already put his new career in jeopardy.
