2018’s first LGBT film looks amazing
The first LGBT film to be released in 2018 has made waves at film festivals and with its first trailer.
Saturday Church tells the story of Ulysses, a 14-year-old who is faced with the challenge of being the ‘man of the house’ after his father’s sudden death.
This job proves even harder as Ulysses begins to explore his gender and love of wearing high heels and tights.
Throughout the trailer we can see Ulysses’ battle between his mother and conservative aunt, who both staunchly disapprove of him wearing anything traditionally more feminine.
The trailer comes to a dramatic climax as Ulysses runs away from home and into the rough streets of New York City.
However, it’s not all doom and gloom for the 14-year-old protagonist, who finds support and friendship (and maybe more) in the arms of a bustling transgender community.
Ulysses finds his support at their LGBTQ group, Saturday Church, learning how to walk in his very high heels and vogue like the experts.
Ulysses then faces his two worlds as they collide, both trying to appease his family whilst being true to himself.
The film is reportedly based on a true story and is written by Damon Cardasis, best known for his work on the 2015 comedy Maggie’s Plan.

Saturday Church debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017 to significant critical acclaim.
The film will be officially released in the US on January 12.
Ahead of its general release, the film already has a 100% score on film review site Rotten Tomatoes.
2018 has already set itself up as a year for LGBT cinema, with young adult dramedy Love, Simon already making headlines for its trailer and very excited fans.
