Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black welcome baby son
Olympic diver Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black have posted photos of their baby son Robbie Ray to social media.
Daley took to Instagram today with a post of their newborn son’s feet, saying his date of birth was 27th June 2018 and confirming their son’s name – which is after Daley’s late father.
He said “Welcome to the world our precious little Robbie Ray Black-Daley ❤️
The most magical moment of my life. The amount of love and joy you have brought into our life is immeasurable. Our precious son. ❤️ ❤️”
Daley’s husband, Dustin Lance Black also posted a photo of the couple cradling their baby son, saying –
“Welcome to the world little Robbie Ray. Thank you for bringing so much love and light with you. And thank you to those who helped make our dream of having a family into this wonderful reality. ❤️#AFamily #HappyBirthday ”
The couple announced that they were expecting a child via social media in February this year and then revealed the baby’s gender a month later, while hitting back at right-wing critics of their choice to conceive via egg donation and pursue a surrogate pregnancy.
Both have been outspoken throughout the process about the barriers faced to parenthood for LGBT+ people. Lance Black said that the UK system, which does not allow commercial surrogacy, made it more challenging for them to raise their son in Daley’s home country, as they wanted and Daley has demanded politicians challenge anti-LGBT laws abroad, after winning gold at the Commonwealth Games.
Right-wing press in the UK sought to undermine the couple’s right to parenthood and the legitimacy of their family, however, the pair continued with extremely adorable celebrations including a surprise baby shower.
