Will & Grace casts Chelsea Handler as power lesbian in its latest season

The US sitcom Will & Grace has cast a ‘high-powered’ lesbian in the second season of its new series.

Chelsea Handler has been cast as Donna Zimmer, according to Entertainment Weekly, and will play a client of Grace’s (Debra Messing).

Handler starts dating Grace’s sister Janet (Mary McCormack) during the series, which will be released on the 4th October.

The show is currently nominated for five Emmy nominations, with one specifically for Megan Mullally (Karen Walker).

The first season of the show, which was originally broadcast in the 90s, was released in April this year.

A second season was commissioned before filming for the first even began, because of the hype surrounding its comeback.

Will & Grace will be Handler’s first traditional acting job since she appeared in the Muppets primetime series in 2015.

Handler stepped down from her Netflix chat show last December after less than two years, saying she wanted to get more involved in political activism.

The comedian, 43, will hope that the second series of the sitcom can keep up its high ratings from the first season.

The show has passionate fans from around the world. Earlier this month a designer created a Will & Grace LEGO set.

Mark Fitzpatrick submitted his version of the cast to the LEGO ideas website, where pitches that gain enough votes will see their ideas become reality.
