Pastor who called gays ‘scum of the earth’ fired for sleeping with prostitutes

Pastor Donnie Romero, who once called gays 'scum of the earth', has been fired from his post at Stedfast Baptist Church for sleeping with prostitutes

Anti-LGBT+ pastor Donnie Romero, who preached at the Stedfast Baptist Church in Texas, has been forced to step down after it emerged that he had been sleeping with prostitutes.

Romero made headlines across the world in 2016 when he said that gay people were the “scum of the earth” and said he hoped the survivors of the Orlando shooting in a gay club would also die.

“These 50 sodomites are all perverts and paedophiles, and they are the scum of the earth, and the earth is a little bit better place now.”

The now disgraced pastor appeared at the church on Wednesday where he addressed the congregation and told them that he had been disqualified from his role in the church for his sins.

In the address, he did not mention what those “sins” were, but instead said that he had been a “terrible husband and father” and said his wife and children were not to blame for his wrongdoing.

Another Pastor, Steven Anderson, then stood up to take questions from those gathered.

In a follow up video posted on YouTube by Anderson, he said that the major sin involved was “being with prostitutes,” and said that he had also used marijuana and gambled.

Romero’s anti-LGBT+ views

Pastor Romero made headlines in 2016 for his horrifying comments in the wake of the Orlando nightclub shooting, in which a 29 year old security guard killed 49 people in a gay club.

Speaking in a sermon in Fort Worth at the time, Romero said the world was a “better place” without the dead “perverts and paedophiles.”

“These 50 sodomites are all perverts and paedophiles, and they are the scum of the earth, and the earth is a little bit better place now.

“And I’ll take it a step further, because I heard on the news today, that there are still several dozen of these queers in ICU and intensive care.

“By tomorrow morning they will all be burning in hell, just like the rest of them, so that they don’t get any more opportunity to go out and hurt little children.”

– Pastor Donnie Romero

“And I will pray to God like I did this morning, I will do it tonight, I’ll pray that God will finish the job that that man started, and he will end their life.

“By tomorrow morning they will all be burning in hell, just like the rest of them, so that they don’t get any more opportunity to go out and hurt little children.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center in the US has branded the Stedfast Baptist Church a hate group.

He is being replaced by Jonathan Shelley

Meanwhile, pastor Jonathan Shelley, who currently leads Pure Words Baptist Church in Houston, will take over from Romero at Stedfast Baptist Church, according to a video he posted on YouTube.

Shelley also harbours anti-LGBT+ views, and in an October 2018 sermon said: “They hate God. God has already given them up. That’s the reason they’re doing these vile, disgusting things. They’re beasts, they’re wicked, they’re abominable, they’re filthy today,” he added.

Steven Anderson, who posted the video on YouTube where he discussed Romero’s offences, is also notorious for his anti-LGBT+ views.

“There’s 50 less paedophiles in this world, because, you know, these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and paedophiles.”

– Steven Anderson

He once claimed that gay people should be executed by stoning, claiming: “If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. That, my friends, is the cure for AIDS. It was right there in the Bible all along.”

Like Romero, Anderson also praised the Orlando nightclub shooting, saying: “There’s 50 less paedophiles in this world, because, you know, these homosexuals are a bunch of disgusting perverts and paedophiles.”

Anderson also posted a shocking rant to YouTube in the aftermath of George Michael’s death, saying that he was now “burning in hell” and that he was a “wicked, God-hating sodomite.”
