Munroe Bergdorf launches ‘female empowerment’ lingerie line

Transgender model Munroe Bergdorf modelling her new lingerie.

Trans model and campaigner Munroe Bergdorf has launched her own lingerie campaign, which she says is “championing female empowerment.”

The 31-year-old model Munroe Bergdorf revealed her new line on social media on Wednesday (January 30), which is believed to be her first ever lingerie campaign.

It was developed in partnership with Bluebella Lingerie.

“Proud and excited to announce that I am collaborating with @bluebella to front their new #LoveYourself campaign,” Bergdorf wrote on Instagram.

“This is a lingerie campaign championing female empowerment, no matter what your size, shape, sexuality, race or gender identity.

“All women are the fantasy, no exceptions!”

It comes after  Ed Razek, chief marketing officer for L Brands, Victoria’s Secret’s parent company, said in an interview with Vogue in November that he did not think trans models should be included in the brand’s fashion show.

Bergdorf told the Metro that she developed her lingerie line because she feels comfortable with her own appearance.

“I’m proud to be part of a campaign that is encouraging all women to feel empowered and sexy in their own ways, on their own terms,” she told the publication.

“This is a lingerie campaign championing female empowerment, no matter what your size, shape, sexuality, race or gender identity.”

“I’ve never felt so sure of myself or as empowered as a human being as I do now.”

Bergdorf added: “In the early stages of transition I was scared of the masculine parts of my body but it has changed so much during the process.

“I’m now in a position where I don’t care about other people’s opinions on my appearance.”

In December, Bergdorf gave an alternative Queen’s Speech celebrating the “triumphant wins” for LGBT+ inclusivity and visibility in 2018.

“Let’s start with education, please think of the children. Take a moment to think about the young ones who still don’t see any representation or relatable role models in history, on television, or in classrooms,” Bergdorf said in a video.

“Our education system and curriculum must mirror the changes in society and cater for all students regardless of race, religion, gender identity or sexuality.”

Trans campaigner Bergdorf has previously come under fire for posts she has made on social media, including using the slurs “poof” and “dyke,” resigning as LGBT advisor to the Labour Party after the historic tweets were revealed. 

She was also sacked by L ‘Oréal in 2017, after she posted on Facebook: “Honestly I don’t have energy to talk about the racial violence of white people any more. Yes ALL white people.” She had been set to become the first trans woman to front a L ‘Oréal campaign.
