Woman spits on gay man in homophobic incident on London Underground

The woman shouted at the man on the London Underground

A horrifying clip filmed on the London Underground appears to show a woman subjecting a man to anti-gay abuse and spitting on him.

The incident was filmed by a bystander on the Jubilee Line at 5:30 AM on Friday (May 3).

In the clip, published by MailOnline, a woman can be seen shouting homophobic abuse at a passenger in front of dozens of onlookers.

Man ‘spat on’ during London Underground attack

She tells the man: “[You think] because you’re gay I’m gonna be like, ‘nah, he’s gay, just let him go?’

“No! Because you’re gay, even more, I’m going to violate you.”

When another passenger tells the woman to “shut the f**k up up,” she continues: “I’m gonna bully him. I don’t care, I’m gonna bully him, I’m gonna bully him cos he tried to chat s**t to me. Let me steal his phone!”

She then attempts to lunge at the man’s phone and spits on him, before turning away to threaten another passenger.

Speaking to MailOnline, the bystander who filmed the video said: “Out of nowhere she started abusing verbally one of the passengers.

“The man tried to ignore her but she was not leaving him alone, she tried touching his face and he was very patient to her, telling her to stop it, without being aggressive until she tried to grab his phone.

“He kicked her and then she spat on his face, the man was still very calm, other passengers gave him tissue to clean up his face and he was grateful for that.”

The woman exited the train at Green Park, according to the bystander.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “British Transport Police are aware of a video on social media showing an incident of homophobic abuse on a Jubilee line train.

“We take all reports very seriously and would ask anyone who witnessed what happened, or who has any information, to contact BTP by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 680 of 03/05/19.”

Not the first homophobic attack on Jubilee Line

In May 2018, two teenagers were handed £150 fines and community sentences over an unrelated homophobic attack on the Jubilee Line.

The victim, who was in fancy dress on the way to a Halloween party, was verbally abused, placed in a headlock and forced to apologise for being gay by two men, Bexley Youth Court heard.

In statements read out to the court, the victim said he felt nervous about travelling on public transport as a result of the attack, and had suffered from panic attacks after the incident.

However, the attackers were spared a custodial sentence.

The 16 and 17-year-olds were ordered to attend youth offender meetings for 12 months, and to pay £150 compensation each to the victim, in addition to £20 each in costs.
