From Alaska Thunderfluff to Mama Ru, people keep naming their dogs after Drag Race royalty

Imagine shouting “Miss Vanjieeeeee!” across the park on a Sunday morning, and having a small, fluffy bundle of joy come running at you.

That’s what thousands of dog owners are doing – with the name Miss Vanjie rocketing in popularity.

Miss Vanjie isn’t the only RuPaul queen whose name is being bestowed upon floofsters, either.

The Drag Race inspired names Ru, Honey, Eureka and Alaska are also are increasing in popularity, and there’s even a dog called Mama Ru.

However, some Drag Race-inspired dog names are going down in popularity.

The name Michelle is seven percent less popular this year than it was last year, while Courtney is 20 percent less popular and Sasha is 13 percent less popular. Paws for thought.

This pawsome information has been dug up by Rover.com – a pet sitting and dog walking company that collected data from more than two million pet owners around the world.

Their research found that RuPaul’s Drag Race queens were inspiring increasing numbers of dog names.

The names Vanjie and Miss Vanjie were up by an im-paws-ible seeming 66 percent.

But none of the dogs named after Drag Race are in the top 10 most popular dog names of 2019.

According to Rover.com, the top names for British pups in 2019 were Bella, Poppy, Alfie, Lola, Max, Charlie, Luna, Bailey, Teddy and Buddy.

It’s too soon to know whether any puppies have been named after queens from this year’s inaugural RuPaul’s Drag Race UK – but maybe next year we’ll see an influx of Vivienne’s and Divina’s.

And who knows, maybe there’ll even be some pooches called Baga Chipz.

What we’d really like to know is how many kittens called Katya are out there – or cats lovingly called Scaredy Kat.
