The creators of Will & Grace have finally addressed rumours of a behind-the-scenes feud between Megan Mullally and Debra Messing.

The beloved gay sit com came to an end last week with the finale of its eleventh and final season, just three years after making a return to screens.

Rumours began to swirl that the show’s demise may be connected to a behind-the-scenes feud between Mullally, who plays Karen Walker, and Messing, who plays Grace Adler, after Mullally was mysteriously absent from two episodes of the show’s final season.

Adding fuel to the fire, fans pointed out that the two were rarely shown together in pictures, and earlier this year Mullally and Messing unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Mullally then proceeded to post cryptic messages on social media about “people who aren’t good for you”, and it being “okay to let go of relationships that aren’t healthy and positive, even with people you’ve known for years and once trusted”.

Now, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick have finally addressed the feud rumours.

Asked how things would wrap up behind the camera, as well as in front of it, Mutchnick said: “We always work under this kind of motto that everything’s about the work. It’s just about the work.

“And so if we stay true to that, then we just keep you guys out of whatever happened on the set this year because it would have done nothing but get in the way of the stories that we wanted to tell.

“It was not an easy year, but the permanent legacy of the show is much more important to us than any temporary squabble that would take place on the stage.”

On the final episode of the show, Mutchnick added: “I didn’t have a sadness about saying goodbye to any of the characters, because I felt like they were doing the thing that they should be doing.

“We put them in the right place.”
