A 75-year-old man allegedly went on a ‘butt-grabbing rampage’ and started a riot inside a gay bar

John Kuhlman

A senior citizen from Michigan, US, sparked a riot inside a queer bar after going on a “butt-grabbing rampage”, the Daily Tribune reported.

State courts have sluggishly dealt with the case of John Kuhlman, 75, of Bloomfield Hills, as the coronavirus pandemic continues to paralyse the nation’s legal systems.

Four days before Christmas 2019, Kuhlman visited Soho, a queer bar in the Ferndale neighbourhood.

The senior citizen then allegedly grabbed a bar patron’s butt twice before then punching his pal in the face. Police say he then offered the man money for sex and instigated a brawl involving a “pile of people”. The odyssey ended with nearly every customer in the bar swinging punches at one another.

‘Tis the season, we imagine.

Butt-grabbing rampage

Kuhlman had a video hearing scheduled with the Ferndale 43rd District Court after being arraigned back in March.

Authorities claimed that the suspect swung by the bar on W. Nine Mile Road where he met a 37-year-old Clawson local and his friend, 61, from Royal Oak.

Kuhlman, witnesses said, targeted the 37-year-old man. “Mr Kuhlman twice grabbed the victim’s buttocks without permission,” said Ferndale police seargent Baron Brown, according to the outlet.

Bar staffers said Kuhlman assaulted the 37-year-old man, provoking his friend to intervene to stop it from happening again.

“The victim’s Royal Oak friend intervened and told the suspect to stop. At that point the friend claims Kuhlman socked him in the face.”

“After grabbing the victim, the suspect made a statement to the Clawson victim that he had a lot of money and asked the victim if he wanted to go home with him,” Brown continued.

We found a pile of people on the floor in the bar.

The police added that, alongside the suspect and the two men, two other bar bystanders were nearby. Yet, when the Soho employees tried to coerce Kuhlman to leave, he became aggressive, and violence engulfed the scene.

The authorities were called at around 10:30pm.

“When we arrived, we found a pile of people on the floor in the bar with Kuhlman trying to get up and get away,” Brown said, noting that the suspect brawled with officers and refused being handcuffed.

Kuhlman is charged with fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct. The high court misdemeanour is punishable by up to two years in prison.

Moreover, he faces two further misdemeanour counts of assault and battery for allegations that he assaulted the Royal Oak man and an officer.
