Phillip Schofield spent lockdown writing a ‘deeply emotional’ tell-all book about coming out as gay
This Morning host Phillip Schofield has announced that he’s spent his time in lockdown finishing a “deeply emotional” tell-all autobiography.
The legendary TV presenter came out as gay in February, disclosing that he’d struggled to come to terms with his sexuality throughout his 27 year marriage to Stephanie Lowe.
He was reportedly been offered £1.5million to write a memoir about his life experiences, and has now completed it – with the first line being written when he was just 14 years old.
“After being asked many times, and after many years of wanting to, I have written my autobiography,” Schofield wrote on social media.
“I wrote the first line of the book, in my head, when I was about 14. It took me until 2017 for me to finally write the first chapter and then I stopped because the time wasn’t right.
“It has certainly been something of a work in progress! Over the years I have been making notes of the stories and events of my life that I thought would tell my story.

“Finally, in lockdown, I knew that all the pieces of the jigsaw had been put into place and I was ready to write – that and a new discovery… lots of free time! It has been a fascinating experience, both immense fun and deeply emotional.
“Finally, after all these years, I’m happy it’s gone from my head, to the page. I’ve been honest and I’ve been me.”
Titled Life’s What You Make It, the book is due to be published on October 15, eight months after he came out of the closet.
Schofield is still married to his wife Stephanie and the couple are parents to Molly, 27, and Ruby, 24. Speaking on Tuesday’s This Morning show with Holly Willoughby, the presenter implied that his sexuality was the reason he hadn’t published the book before now.
“In 2017, I wrote the first chapter and I sent it to a few friends and they said, ‘Oh my God, you have to write this’, and I knew I couldn’t, and you know why. And then my life changed,” he said.
