See inside Lady Gaga’s old New York apartment, now available for rent

The New York City apartment Lady Gaga once rented in the early days of her career is now available to rent at $2,000.

To some, it’s a white-walled, one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with 10-foot high ceilings. Nothing special. A random floating fridge in the middle of the, er, living room.

To others, it’s a holy place. A site of almost religious significance – it’s the New York City apartment once lived in by musical profit Lady Gaga, then known more commonly as Stefani Germanotta.

Before The Fame, Lady Gaga sang open mic nights at bars by her NYC apartment

Lady Gaga lived in a quiet block in the Lower East Side neighbourhood of Manhattan for three years before she was catapulted into stardom with the thumping success of her first album, The Fame.

The place, on 176 Stanton Place, is described in its StreetEasy listing: “Soaring 10ft ceilings, open kitchen w/ STAINLESS STEEL appliances, windowed bath with full TUB, recessed lighting and inlaid wood flooring throughout.”

“WILL NOT LAST!” it ends. The prophecy will be undoubtedly be fulfilled considering the pad has become something of a shrine for Little Monsters, with scrawlings on the front door dedicated to Gaga.

While living there, Gaga worked local mic nights in honky-tonks in an effort to catch her big break, all the while studying to be an actor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

Splashed in natural light – sunlight is a rarity in New York City, while pizza-dragging rats are all too common – Gaga wrote the songs to The Fame.

The hitmaker later traded the place for a sprawling Central Park South apartment at $22,000 per month, according to Curbed New York. Gaga’s old digs then hit the market once in 2011 and again in 2015.

Gaga swung by her old place in 2011, joined by broadcaster Anderson Cooper, for a 60 Minutes segment, pointing out the spots she used to grab tacos at. She even makes pilgrimages back to it from time to time years on.

In other words, rent out the apartment and one day Lady Gaga herself could be knocking on your door.

That, or you’ll be lounging below the skylight you pay $2,000 for, catching a tan in all that precious, precious sunlight.
