Naughty Dog get gamers into a froth after posting job ad for ‘standalone multiplayer title’

The Last Of Us Part II

Naughty Dog, the studio behind The Last of Us, is hiring developers to work on its first standalone multiplayer title.

This fairly clear sign that Naughty Dog is working on something spectacular has fans incredibly excited. The news first broke after couple of job postings went live this week on Naughty Dog’s careers page, leading to fans speculating that this could mean another Last of Us game.

The job description detailed the project as Naughty Dog’s “newest adventure”, claiming it will be the studio’s first standalone multiplayer game. The ad states that they are looking for someone who has the “same level of ambition and quality as our signature, story-driven games to this unique multiplayer project.”

One role available on their careers page is for a “level and environment designer” for the multiplayer project specifically. The other is a temporary placement gameplay scripter.

Back in April, it was reported that Naughty Dog was in the process of remaking both The Last of Us and Uncharted after Bloomberg ran an article about Sony’s Visual Arts Service group, an internal team that assist other Sony studios with their projects.

This isn’t the first time an exciting job listing has led to a flurry of speculation about Naughty Dog’s plans. Early this year, a job listing went up looking for someone who can “design, implement, and tune game economy and player progression systems” in an unspecified “multiplayer action game”, giving fans hope that there was a possibility The Last of Us 2: Factions could be on the way.

There have been talks about The Last of Us remake for PS5 since the studio’s Creative Director Neil Druckmann and co-writer of the game Halley Gross spoke about it on the Script Apart podcast back in April.

Revealing that the plot for The Last of Us 3 has been outlined even though there were no plans to start production yet, Druckmann revealed on the show that an outline for a possible sequel has been penned by the pair and he hopes “one day it will see the light of day”.
