Drag Race royalty Katya talks ‘toxic’ fandom in side-splitting Ziwe interview: ‘I’m in awe of them’
RuPaul’s Drag Race icon Katya has opened up about the show’s “toxic” fandom, admitting she is both “terrified” and “in awe” of her fans.
In an interview with late night talk show host Ziwe, Katya was asked a series of provocative questions, from what she thinks of Drag Race fans, to her thoughts on straight men, to which M&M characters might be getting together.
When asked which fandom was the most toxic, RuPaul’s Drag Race or NFL team the New England Patriots, Katya said without a beat: “RuPaul’s Drag Race! Are you kidding me?”
She added: “Kathryn Bigelow wouldn’t have had to make Zero Dark Thirty if the fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race had been in the mix… there’s sleuthing.
“They are scheming. They’re plotting, and they are tearing s**t down… I am terrified of them, I’m also sort of in awe of them.”

Katya, along with fellow Drag Race legend Trixie Mattel, will be bringing their joint tour to the UK and Europe for the first time in November this year.
The tour will start in London on 5 November at Wembley’s OVO Arena and stop off across the UK and Europe, finishing on 11 December in Dublin.
The pair has previously teamed up for television projects like UNHhhh, The Trixie and Katya Show, on music and the podcast, The Bald and the Beautiful.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Mattel said: “After over a year of living on your small screens, we are pulling out all of the stops on this live show. You can expect spectacular musical numbers, a dazzling set, and impeccable timing from two of the most talented women in the world. Do I smell a Tony?”
Katya added: “Trixie and Katya Live will redefine drag, theatre, and art. You may leave with more questions than answers, but one thing’s for sure: The world will never be the same.”
The duo’s book, Working Girls: Trixie and Katya’s Guide to Professional Womanhood, will be released in October 2022.
