Former Disney star Dan Benson joins OnlyFans, promises to support LGBTQ+ causes

Former Disney star Dan Benson has joined OnlyFans, pledging to support LGBTQ+ charities with his resurgence in fame.

The Wizards of Waverly Place actor, 34, began sharing photos and videos on the online subscription platform a few weeks ago, thanking “gay Twitter” for the support he has received.

Benson, who appeared on the Disney show alongside Selena Gomez, has pledged on Twitter to help the LGBTQ+ community by donating to fans’ favourite charities using his new platform.

“I’ll be using this new found resurgence to fight for and support the LGBTQ+ communities that deserve so much better from this country,” he said in a tweet.

“Drop a link to your favourite organisations below.”

Dan Benson added previously that the LGBTQ+ community has helped to boost his profile since joining OnlyFans, stating: “Never underestimate the power of gay Twitter.”

OnlyFans came under fire last year when it was forced to backtrack on its plan to ban “sexually explicit” content, despite the platform becoming a hub for amateur and professional adult entertainers and sex workers.

The platform said in August 2021 that it would be changing its content guidelines to ban videos showing sex and masturbation in order to attract more outside investment. OnlyFans was then forced to change its policy after backlash from sex workers.

OnlyFans said in a statement: “Thank you to everyone for making your voices heard.

“We have secured assurances necessary to support our diverse creator community and have suspended the planned October 1 policy change.

“OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators.”

The service had previously said the policy change was necessary to “ensure the long-term sustainability of our platform”.

“These changes are to comply with the requests of our banking partners and payout providers,” it added at the time of the initial announcement.
